Re:

South Africa - Industrial Action Continues

South Africa - Industrial Action continues:

Be advised that the industrial action at South African ports and railways continues as the SATAWU union did not accept the latest settlement offer this past Friday. There have been no new bookings due to the resulting congestion at the ports and the following carriers have announced Congestion Recovery Surcharge fees on all containers loading/discharging at South African ports.

Summary of Congestion Recovery Surcharges on containers loading/discharging at South African ports:
Safmarine: USD 75 per TEU effective 5/19/10
MOL: USD 70 per TEU effective 5/19/10
Maersk: USD 75 per TEU effective 5/19/10
MSC: USD 100 per TEU effective 6/18/10

We will continue to update on any further announcements from the carriers on the possible duration or when the withdrawal/suspension of the surcharge may take place. For status on any pending South African orders check with your operations representative at 732-388-0101 or login to AXIS for further detail.
